Tight spot in new chain & sprocket. So last Thursday I went to my local bike shop and picked up a s&m x-man sprocket (28t). It would be possible to avoid it if we changed the bikes to run fully enclosed chain cases and ran them in a permanent bath of oil rather like the cam chain in an engine, but as things stand, all chains get tight spots. The best we can do is to lubricate tension and align them correctly in an effort to minimise the affect. A completely brand new chain, installed correctly, will do this as well. Not as much as your chain, (because it is used), but ALL chains, (even brand new ones), have tight and loose spots. This is why I am a strong advocate of NOT adjusting your chain while the bike is on its side stand, (as per the owner's manual.). It's not a new pair of socks, it's a freakin' motorcycle chain. A ring that actualy has a lump on one side - as in it's not round and the lump increases the circumfrence - that will cause a tight spot. It's a manufacturing fault that you can only fix with a replacement ring, if the circumfrence is wrong for the amount of teeth you can't change it by.
